We began as a simple pizza shop on 63rd St. in Chicago. In the Summer of 1961 the first generation of our Sicilian family set out to make a better pizza. Combining their old world recipes with modern trends, Palermo’s quickly gained a reputation for outstanding service and pizza. Our unique sweet sauce used in our pizza is a highly guarded family secret.

The 63rd Street location began as a small, mainly take-out restaurants located at 63rd Street and Maplewood. The pizza and spaghetti sauces were and are a treasured recipe of the Tirrito family, which boasts among its ancestors an acclaimed 18th century painter-poet, Fr. Fedele Tirrito-Palermo. Palermo’s authentic Italian food, made with quality ingredients and unique sauces, soon attracted vast attention and praise for their sweet, distinctive qualities.

The concept they created was to take fresh ingredients and a wood-burning stone oven and recreate the taste and fresh-baked feel of an old Italian village and create the best Italian restaurant around. Parmesans slogan of pizzapastapastry gives a brief overview of what we do. Our hand-pulled old-fashioned pizza crusts are baked directly on the stone, giving the pizza a distinct crispy crust.
